#AllCoopedUp with Tina Frey, Designer

I have been a Tina Frey fan long before I ever had a shop. Her unique designs, made of resin, look like handmade ceramic pieces. Her poolside-safe plates, cups, planters and more create a dreamy modern look with a touch of wabi-sabi. Tina draws inspiration from many sources. The fluid lines of her silhouettes are reminiscent of the blue sea, while the organic contours of each piece emulate the curves of nature. Her work has garnered Frey a loyal following and a new, expansive studio, production space and warehouse in San Francisco. Lets just say my quarantine cocktail hour feels a lot more special when I use my Tina Frey ice bucket.  -Jenna

What’s your profession, and what does your day-to-day work experience look like now?

I am a designer. My day to day starts with a morning call with my team since we are all working remotely from home at the moment. After addressing my to-do list, I try to delve into some creative time, whether that is drawing, researching, or sculpting.

Are there objects or spaces in your house that you are newly appreciating? Or are there objects and spaces you have come to loathe?

Yes, I am definitely enjoying being at home for a change. I didn't realize we would love it so much. I usually travel a lot, and we get so used to going out going out for dinner and socializing with friends, that you can forget how to entertain yourself with simple things with your loved ones at home. I am enjoying the slow morning coffee and breakfast routine… actually, every meal at home! What a treat it is to enjoy the tableware and serving pieces that I make! I love my dining table and am particularly enjoying our carafe, cream & sugar sets, trays, and placemats. I find they get the most use in our house.

Describe your at-home quarantine uniform.

Leggings, a t-shirt, sweatshirt, and cosy slippers.

Who are you quarantining with? Do you feel the need to “get away”? How do you make it happen?

My husband and our 2 standard poodles. I definitely miss traveling and still day dream about things getting back to the way it was, but it is also really lovely to stay home and meditate. So now my "getaway" is more meditating at home. I can do this easily at home on a daily basis and it is so readily available to anyone who wants to do it.

What’s the last thing you purchased online? Regret or obsessed?

Some sandals from Ancient Greek Sandals when I thought I would need them. I love them and know they are a good basic that I will be able to wear when we get to go outside again.

Tell us the best shows, podcasts, or books you’re loving right now.

I have never been a big television watcher. However, we did finally plug in the TV last week and started watching some old Daniel Craig James Bond movies. I love reading and have been reading more books by Ekhart Tolle, Free Will and The End of Faith and Sam Harris, and a new book called Anatomy of Spirit by Caroline Myss.

Do you have any new quarantine activities or rituals?

I have noticed I sleep in longer than usual. Since I don't have to rush out of bed to beat traffic and drive to work, I am really enjoying the slow mornings and taking my time getting out of bed!

What is your favorite quarantine snack? What restaurants are you ordering takeout from?

I have discovered I like making homemade ice cream. I have also made chocolate chip cookies and baked a flourless chocolate cake. Not sure why they are all sweet! We have not ordered any take out food. We have only been cooking at home and it is lovely!

What is the one item you’re glad you stocked up on? What do you wish you’d stocked up on?

I stocked up on whipping cream. I love having it in my morning coffee and using it to make ice cream. I wish I’d stocked up on yeast for making bread.

What is your creative outlet and how are you making space for it?

I started getting into drawing again and I have a large art pad with colored pencils, markers, and pens that allows me to get spontaneous if I want to draw. It is wonderful to rediscover this fun activity!

Describe your biggest quarantine indulgence.

I broke down and got some Doritos last week. I hope this does not continue!

What are you doing for exercise?

Walk the dogs, run, hike around the hills of my neighborhood, and yoga.

Are you sharing recipes with friends?

Yes! Definitely!

When this is over I cannot wait to ___________.

Hug people.
