#AllCoopedUp with Jodi Brufsky, Founder of Beyond Yoga

Jodi Brufsky is a friend, a mother, a daughter, a sister and a wife. She is also the founder and visionary of Beyond Yoga, a yoga-inspired lifestyle brand for today’s woman. She was born into an unusual and amazing family, one that is often referred to as “Hollywood royalty.” Her father is mega film producer Peter Guber and her mother, Tara Guber, is a forward-thinking yogi philanthropist. Jodi started practicing yoga herself, and with her newfound perspective, she was inspired to create Beyond Yoga, a line of clothing for everybody and every body. The purpose of Beyond Yoga is to help women feel beautiful all day long, allowing for an effortless transition from carpool to yoga to lunch with stylish ease. Made in the USA to support the local community, the brand promotes awareness and authenticity. -Jenna

What’s your profession, and what does your day-to-day work experience look like now?

I am the Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Beyond Yoga. When it comes to work, it is mostly phone calls (while cleaning, doing laundry, washing dishes and cooking) and zoom calls! We have figured out a way to do our fittings virtually with social distancing—we have a clever, creative and committed team that I’m super proud of! We had to pivot and really focus on our e-comm, as so many accounts are sadly currently (and hopefully temporarily) closed. We also launched face masks which I am proud of and we do a 2 for 2—you buy 2 and we donate 2—so that we can support those in need.

Are there objects or spaces in your house that you are newly appreciating?

I really try to appreciate all the spaces in my home—we built it with that in mind. For example, we have an infrared sauna, and often those get neglected, so I make sure to use it 3-6 times a week during quarantine. We live on the water, so I also make sure to jump in every day! It’s a great cold plunge! You can mimic that with a cold bath or shower or pool if you have one.

Describe your at-home quarantine uniform.

Beyond Yoga of course! We have everything you need to dress you for quarantine life and beyond. Lots of leggings, sweatpants and sweatshirts! I am currently obsessed with our jumpsuit! Once a week I put on jeans or jean shorts just to make sure they fit and to feel a bit of normalcy! I also do my hair a few days a week so that I feel pretty and put together—it keeps me sane!

Who are you quarantining with? Do you feel the need to “get away”? How do you make it happen?

My husband and my step daughter. They are both very self-contained and self-sufficient, so it isn’t too stressful. I don’t really have the need to “get away”as long as I commit to and follow through with my morning routine (see below).

What’s the last thing you purchased online? Regret or obsessed?

Four Sigmatic Mushroom Cacao with Reishi. I drink it every day with hot water, oat milk and stevia. OBSESSED! The other weekly purchase has been Tate’s Cookies. I’m obsessed and regret it at the same time, but I cant help myself!!

Tell us the best shows, podcasts, or books you’re loving right now.

The TV show Little Fires Everywhere, the book In Five Years by Rebecca Serle (which was a NY Times bestseller for 6 weeks in a row), and the podcast Raw Beauty Talks

Do you have any new quarantine activities or rituals?

Every morning I have my ritual that must happen in order for me to feel grounded for the day:

Wake up, meditate, write in my gratitude journal, post my inspirational Instagram Post, jump in the ocean, and workout. Once that is complete I can handle anything else in the day. I know I have done self-care and can show up for others.

What is your favorite quarantine snack? What restaurants are you ordering takeout from?

Tate’s Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies, but to be honest, it is hard to just have 1… or 2. Shhhhhh!!! Porta Via & Jon & Vinny’s are great spots for take out, but we eat mostly home cooked meals.

What is your creative outlet and how are you making space for it?

My creative outlet has been Instagram. I have been working on my inspirational posts and I research daily by reading and listening to experts who inspire me.

Describe your biggest quarantine indulgence.

I had peanut butter frozen yogurt messengered to me several times. Shhhhhh! Again!

If you have kids, how are you maintaining some kind of schedule for them?

I have one step daughter at home with us and she maintains her own schedule. I really feel for those with several little kids that they have to teach and entertain all day—lots of compassion.

What are you doing for exercise?

I do yoga with Tom Morley on Zoom every day at 9:30, Facetime with my trainer (I’m trying to still support those who count on me and me on them), use the treadmill, go on walks, use my Peleton (they have great online classes in ALL categories—not just spin), and do dance classes with JÄM Malibu.

Are you sharing recipes with friends?

I am sharing a lot with friends, but it comes in the form of inspiration and positivity—so my recipes are words of encouragement, poems, funnies, inspirational ideas, new ways of thinking and looking at things, new workouts etc… I like to try to be the light in the darkness and shine some uplifting energy for all. This is something I do daily on my Instagram and I have been receiving a lot of kind and positive encouragement to continue. So thanks to all my fans out there who appreciate my words.

What’s been the biggest challenge for you throughout this?

Not seeing my girlfriends—they are my everything! I am a big fan of my birthday and like to celebrate every year, and this year I was in quarantine, so I did an all day Zoom where people popped on when they were free. It actually worked out perfectly!

When this is over I cannot wait to….

Get a manicure and pedicure. My roots/gray hairs need attention too, but not as much as a my nails!
