#AllCoopedUp with Laura Wasser, Attorney and Founder of It's Over Easy

My friend Laura Wasser is smart, funny, and honest. Her perspective on the world (when it’s not a pandemic) can be very enlightening, so I can only imagine what she has to say about living through this safer at home time. In case you don't already know her, she is a family law attorney, author, entrepreneur, public speaker and style icon. She is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the online divorce platform, It’s Over Easy, and host of the podcast All's Fair with Laura Wasser. By simplifying the divorce process online and sharing her vast experience in family law with her audience, couples are empowered to reclaim control over their own destinies. Laura is determined to change the face of divorce by providing education, tools and support for families going through the process and making it available to everyone. - Jenna

What’s your profession, and what does your day-to-day work experience look like now?

I am the managing partner of a family law firm and the CEO and Founder of the Online Divorce Platform, It’s Over Easy. My workdays days are currently filled with Zoom video conferences and hearings, reassurance calls and emails with clients and webinars, blog posts and interviews to contribute to the community of people with custody, support, and other questions related to the uncertainty of our current pandemic circumstances.

Are there objects or spaces in your house that you are newly appreciating? Or are there objects and spaces you have come to loathe?

I have always had great appreciation for my living room; I just have never had the opportunity to spend as much time in it as I have over the past few weeks during Safer at Home. It is light and bright, has great art and beams and gets the best Wi-Fi connection for online calls and meetings. There is also a fireplace for sitting in front of on the rainier days. Staring into the fire is an excellent accompaniment to contemplating a more social future.

Describe your at-home quarantine uniform.

Because I am still making court appearances (via Zoom) and speaking publicly (even if from my living room), I have been putting on somewhat professional clothing each morning after I work out. This is generally limited to the waist up: a blouse or sweater and good accessories. I’ve really been having some fun with necklaces and earrings; even bracelets, as I often speak with my hands. Uncharacteristic of my normal uniform, I have not put on a pair of heels since early March.

Who are you quarantining with? Do you feel the need to “get away”? How do you make it happen?

My two sons, 14 and 10, and our two dogs, 9 and 10 weeks. There is a lot of boy energy around here, but I am used to it. The 10-week-old puppy is tons of fun, but lots of work too. To get away, I go for an early morning run most days… or ask for help with the dishes (everyone leaves me alone then).

What advice would you give to people who aren't getting along with their partner during quarantine?

Take some time and space. It may need to be in a different way than you normally would based on close quarters and quarantine safeguards, but it is possible. Designating different rooms or areas as your space, taking walks alone or putting on headphones and listening to some music, will give you the boundaries you need to get some clarity and relief. If possible, examine why it is you are not getting along and see whether this may be an opportunity to develop some new communication tools and actually improve the relationship.

Do you have any new quarantine activities or rituals?

I’m definitely stretching more… and drinking more.

What is your favorite quarantine snack? What restaurants are you ordering takeout from?

Apples and peanut butter, wine, banana bread, wine, cheese, wine… wine.

What is the one item you’re glad you stocked up on? What do you wish you’d stocked up on?

FOCL supplement products! FOCL does CBD products and supplements. In the morning I’ve been taking FOCL Day which is a huge focus booster during this rather blurry time. Its plant powered formula includes botanicals and adaptogens specifically chosen to support brain agility and health. Rhodiola Rosa for calm and concentration, Lion’s Mane for clarity, and vitamin B6 as a natural mood booster. Two capsules before my run and I’m energized and super clear on how the rest of my day will go. FOCL Night is a plant powered rest aid that has been helping me calm my overactive mind and rest peacefully each night. Valerian Root for frazzled nerves, Ashwagandha, an adaptogen that helps balance and manage stress and Premium Hemp CBD which underscore and amplifies the other ingredients and supports the body’s endocannabinoid system. So many people have been telling me that they are having a hard time sleeping with all of this global unrest. Not me. 😊

Describe your biggest quarantine indulgence.

Making and eating banana bread!

If you have kids, how are you maintaining some kind of schedule for them?

We have been getting up at almost our normal weekday time, having breakfast, and heading out on a walk before their first remote classes of the day. This gives us time to discuss the day, explore our neighborhood, tire out the dogs, and get our blood pumping.

What are you doing for exercise?

I’m a runner, so that hasn’t really changed. I do miss my Pilates with Romi at Ballet Bodies. I’m considering doing some of her online classes next week.

What’s been the biggest challenge for you throughout this?

The lack of in-person connection.

When this is over I cannot wait to ___________.

TRAVEL.
