Zúcar de Matamoros is a town famous for its production of hand molded and painted pottery. Since the early 1940’s the town’s artisans have been incorporating into their iconography figures and forms inspired in both pre-Hispanic cosmogony and Spanish Catholic art resulting in the most unique mix of styles. The most representative pieces from Izucar are the trees of life and elaborate candelabras that are produced specifically for the family altars created for the Day of the Dead festivities.
