White Lotus presents Alex Katz’s newest series of twelve large-scale portraits, inspired by the characters and cinematic mood of Mike White’s acclaimed HBO series. Painted in the summer of 2023 in Katz’s Maine studio, the works draw on photography, television, and the stylized language of 1970s Italian cinema to capture fleeting, present-tense moments between couples.

One of the most celebrated American artists of his generation, Katz has spent more than five decades refining his distinctive approach to portraiture and landscape—defined by flattened surfaces, bold clarity, and an economy of line shaped by mid-century culture.
