The Fife Arms
Art-world visionaries Iwan and Manuela Wirth saw the poetry in a neglected hotel deep in the Scottish Highlands — not far from Balmoral Castle — and transformed it into The Fife Arms, a place where history, art, and design converge.
Every inch of the hotel’s interior is thoughtfully woven into the fabric of its Braemar surroundings, with each room telling a story — of a person, event, or theme rooted in its sense of place. From Zhang Enli’s ceiling mural in the Drawing Room to Subodh Gupta’s striking Fire Room sculpture, the hotel also houses works by Louise Bourgeois, Pablo Picasso, Man Ray, and even HRH Queen Victoria.
This updated edition reveals The Fife Arms in intricate detail — bespoke wallpaper, rich textiles, and an ever-evolving art collection, including recent acquisitions like Picasso’s Tête de Femme and Keith Tyson’s Still Life with Stars and Antlers.
Blending archival imagery with new photography of the hotel’s captivating interiors and its Highland backdrop, this volume is essential for those drawn to artful design, storied hotels, and the quiet drama of place.
