This book was the first one published by the Bauhaus, preceding the well-known Bauhausbücher proper of 1925. It was issued on the occasion of the great Weimar Bauhaus exhibition of 1923, organized at the behest of the Thuringian Legislative Assembly, which wished to have a public display of the accomplishments of the past four years. Gropius chose the theme, “Art and Techniques: A New Unity.”
